Will of Edward Russell

In re: EDWARD RUSSELL. DECEASED

In the name of God Amen I Edward Russell fisherman of Bay Roberts, Conception Bay in the Island of Newfoundland being sound in mind and able to dispose do this twenty-first day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy three, make this my last will and testament.

I will and bequeath to my wife Margaret Russell for the period of her natural life if she remain unmarried, the whole of my land (as shown on the grant given by the govmt to me & my brother the late Isaac Russell) with the dwelling & other buildings standing thereon together with household furniture & stock of all & every kind to be used by her for the support of herself & my children as her judgment may lead her - withholding however from her any power to sell any part of said land or dwellings. At her death, or if she should marry again I will that the said land be equally divided between my two sons Isaac & William Edward Russell to the younger of whom (William Edward) I bequeath the dwelling house I now live in.

And I makest my last request, that they hold the said land, and part with no portion of it - but keep it & pass it down to their children & so on for ever And I hereby appoint my wife, Margaret Russell & Mr W. K. Russell, joint executors of this my last will & testament and I charge them before the almighty to see it duly & faithfully carried into effect. Edward his x mark Russell Signed sealed and delivered by the said Edward Russell in our presence, and in the presence of each other, this twenty first day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three William H. Russell Margaret her x mark Russell Executor W. C. Shears Eliza Moore witnesses
