In re
Charlotte Mercer deceased. In the name of God Amen. I Charlotte Mercer resident in Brigus Conception Bay in the Island of Newfoundland Widow being sound in mind and understanding knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make this my last will and testament, viz. First I resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it hoping assuredly it may rise triumphantly at the last and awful day of resurrection- Secondly I give and bequeath the whole of my property to Samuel Wilcocks and his wife Elizabeth during their natural lives and after their death to their sons Samuel and Robert Wilcocks to be possessed by them at my decease to have and to hold the same without molestation of any person whether money goods chattels or all and every thing now and at my decease possessed by me giving the whole to them. Thirdly, Should it so happen that the aforesaid, Samuel and Robert Wilcocks should die before their parents leaving no issue then the said property to be divided between the surviving daughters of the said Samuel and Elizabeth Wilcocks share and share alike- Fourthly, I nominate and appoint Mr. Samuel Wilcocks my sole executor of this my last will and testament and that a grave stone or grave stones be erected to the memory of myself my late husband Charles Mercer and my son Moses Knight and that my interment be conducted in a respectable manner the expenses of which to be raised and levied out of my estate- Fifthly, That the eastern half of my room become the property of Samuel Wilcox son of Samuel and Elizabeth Wilcox aforesaid at their decease. Sixthly if my executor Mr. Samuel Wilcox should be absent at my death I request Mr. John Leamon to take charge of my funeral arrangements- Dated at Brigus aforesaid this seventh day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven.
