a Will     The last will and testament of Benjamin French Lumber Surveyor of Brigus in the District of Port-de-Grave. I, Benjamin French considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound mind and memory (blessed be Almighty God for the same) do make and publish this my last will and testament, in manner and form following (that is to say).
First. I give and bequeath unto my son, Kenneth M. French, my land, dwelling house and work-shop in rear of said dwelling house situate and being on the East side of Brigus Main Street and in the town of Brigus aforesaid and bounded as follows, north by a roadway eight feet wide common to the said property and the property of my brother James French, south by the land of Fredrick Jerrett, Merchant, East by the Saltwater Pond of Brigus and west by the aforesaid Main Street of Brigus and measuring twenty four feet by the said Road, with all chattels, furniture and carpenters tools thereon, also that three corner lot on the southside of the main line from Brigus aforesaid to the railway station and bounded as follows, north by the aforesaid road on the south East by road to Gardens and on the west by the property of James French. Also all moneys in the Bank of Nova Scotia in the town of Brigus aforesaid, and all money in the Newfoundland Savings Bank in the name of the said Benjamin French. The said Kenneth M. French to pay all my Funeral Expenses.
I appoint Patrick J. Kent accountant of the town of St. John’s and Thomas Brien Telegrapher of Brigus aforesaid executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty second day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousand, nine hundred and seventeen Benjamin French (LS) The above instrument consisting of one sheet was now here subscribed by Benjamin French, the testator in the presence of each of us and was at the same time declared by him to be his last will and testament and we at his request, sign our name hereto as attesting witnesses. - William J.
