In the name of God Amen.
By this my last will and testament, I, Thomas Mercer of Bay Roberts in the Island of Newfoundland, Planter, being of sound mind and memory, do will and bequeath as follows: First, I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God in the hope of a joyful resurrection through Jesus Christ and desire that my body may be interred with decent and Christian burial.
Secondly, I give to my nieces, Ada and Leah Mercer of Bay Roberts, the sum of Five pounds currency each that is to say, Five pounds to Ada and Five pounds to Leah. Thirdly, I give to my nephews, Elijah Mercer and Eli Mercer of Bay Roberts, all the monies that I may die possessed of wheresoever and in whosoever hands it may be save, the sums before bequeathed to my nieces – And I do further bequeath and give forever all my Fishing Room Boats, Skiffs, Seines and all other craft or goods of any sort that I may die possessed of to my said nephews, Elijah and Eli Mercer – And I do desire and will that the said nephews shall pay all my funeral expenses out of the monies left to them by this my will. And I do lastly appoint my said nephews, Elijah and Eli Mercer, my executors to see that this my Will and Testament to duly and lawfully carried into effect. Given under my hand and seal at Bay Roberts in the Island of Newfoundland aforesaid this seventeenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty. Signed and sealed before Us this seventeenth day of December in the year of Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty
