Will of Sarah Mercer
 In the Name of God Amen, I, Sarah Mercer, widow of Charles Mercer, late of Port de Grave, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. First, I commit my soul into the hands of the Almighty God who gave it, and, my body I desire that my Grandson, Robert Hennessy, may see decently interred as his expence which may be as moderate as possible.

And second, I give and bequeath unto said, Robert Hennessy, and Lucy Mercer, the daughter of Graham Mercer, all my Right Title and Interest unto one half of the Fishing Room and Gardens being the same as possessed by my late husband, Charles Mercer, to be between them equally divided. The other half of the Room and Gardens is to belong to my son, George Mercer – the same as it is now divided.

Third, I give and bequeath further unto Robert Hennesssy, and Lucy Mercer, the Dwelling House that I now live in between them. Lucy Mercer is to have the large Copper Kettle. The household furniture that belongs to the house is to be remain in it and whatever furniture as belonging to Patience Mercer is to be given to her when required.

My daughter, Sarah, is to have a Gold Ring and the China and a Rug (large) and a Quilt for Richard Morrissey. Lucy Mercer is to have a new Bonnett and a Gown. Sarah is to have my ? Cloak. The bed is to be given unto Lucy and a shawl.

All the rest of my wearing apparel is to be equally shared between my two daughters, Hannah and Sarah in as equal a manner as possible excepting a Bonnet for George Mercer’s wife and the Dog boxes to be Robert Hennessey’s.

This I confirm to be my last Will and Testament and I do appoint Mr. James Butler, Senior, Executor of the same who is to see everything fairly settled between the families interested.

This done at Port de Grave this tenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine .
