George Mercer

The will of Capt. George Mercer of Bay Roberts Newfoundland. I George Mercer of Bay Roberts Newfoundland, declare this to be my last will and testament. I give to my wife Rosanna Mercer, my dwelling house, with all its contents, shop, barn, and outhouses, and the land on which said dwelling house, shop, barn and outhouses stand, also the piece of land known as potato and meadow ground, situated on the backroad, and bounded on the North by the main road, on the South by land owned by John Mercer, on the East by land owned by William Norman, on the West by land owned by Nathan Mercer, together with the plot of land known as the kitchen garden, situated in front of Nathan Mercer's house, and the marsh garden, situated on the South of kitchen garden, and hill garden, and side of the hill garden, to be hers until what ever time she shall marry again. In the event of the marriage or death of my wife Rosanna Mercer, the said dwelling house, shop, barn, and outhouses and land on which said dwelling house and barn and outhouses stand also the kitchen garden, and marsh garden, together with hill garden, and side of the hill garden, shall become the property of my son Malcolm Mercer, his heirs and assigns forever.

2. In the event of the marriage or death of my wife Rosanna Mercer, if there should be any shop goods, or money, left said shop goods and money shall be divided into four parts, between my five children, namely Eli Mercer, Robert H. Mercer, George L. Mercer, Rachel Mercer, and Beatrice Mercer. The two daughters, Rachel Mercer, and Beatrice Mercer, are to have one full share divided equally between them.

3. In the event of the marriage or death of my wife Rosanna Mercer the piece of land situated on the backroad, bounded on the North by the main road, on the South by land owned by John Mercer, on the East by land owned by William Norman, and on the West by land owned by Nathan Mercer, is to become the property of my son Eli Mercer, his heirs and assigns forever.

4. I give and bequeath to my son Eli Mercer, his heirs and assigns, the fishing boat, known as the Central boat.

5. I request that my sons shall be kind to my wife after my decease, and I desire that Mrs. Gosse shall have a home in my house as long as she shall live.

6. I give and bequeath to my wife Rosanna Mercer, what ever money I possess at the time of my death.

7. I appoint my wife Rosanna Mercer, the sole executor of this my Will. In witness whereof I George Mercer have hereunto set my hand this 31st day of May 1917 Geo Mercer Wit. S. Bennett Methodist Minister Nathan French
