Charles Butler deceased
In the name of God Amen. I Charles Butler of Hibbs Hole Conception Bay but now living in Foxtrap South Shore Conception Bay Newfoundland Fisherman and Farmer, being very weak in body but of perfect mind and memory do hereby make my last will and testament. In the first place I give and bequeath to Patience my beloved wife All I possess, dwelling house, stable, cellar, fishing room cultivated and uncultivated land for her sole use and
benefit while she is alive and remains in my name - After her death my grandson Ananias Butler if he lives with her cultivates the land and helps to support her is to take possession of the dwelling house stable cellar and that piece of cultivated land and what is not cultivated from the stable out towards the North. Also he is to take possession of a piece of land in aback of what is cultivated and what is not cultivated. After my wife's death
the remainder of the land is to be divided equally, between my two sons John and Job, John is to take the North part and Job the South part, but they are not to see their mother in distressed circumstances, if she should be and my sons did not assist her she must sell land to help support herself - If my grandson should not live with my wife until her death an equal share of what I willed him shall be given to my before named sons John and Job - my fishing room is to be divided between my two sons John and Job each is to
have an equal share of the fishing gear - and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former Testaments wills and bequests by me in any wises before named, willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this, and no other to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this seventeenth day of December in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty. Charles his X mark Butler. Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said Charles Butler as his last will and testament in the presence of us, who in his presence, and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
