Conception Bay North - Harbour Grace

Public Meeting about a Fire, 1868


A public Meeting was held on the 14th at the Temperance Hall, to make arrangements for an appeal to the Legislature for aid to the sufferers by the calamitous fire, which rendered so many homeless. 50 families, comprising of 280 people were rendered houseless, and suffer severe privations, who a few days ago were in comfortable circumstances. The principal trading part of town between LeMarchant Street and Victoria Street were on the 12th of April reduced to ashes.
