The Annual Examination of the Harbor Grace Grammar School
took place on Monday last in the presence of the Directors and others.
Owing to the severity of the weather the attendance of the general public was not quite so large as on some previous occasions; but at no former time, during the incumbency of the present Teacher, was the examination itself more interesting and successful. We were very much pleased with the whole deportment of the pupils. Their fine intellectual appearance, their respectful attention to, and deep interest in, all the exercises of the day, as well as the general accuracy and intelligence of their answers to the searching questions proposed to them on the various branches which formed the subject of their studies - were such as very amply attested the laborious faithfulness of their Teacher during the past year. The classes in History and Chemistry formed a new feature in the School, and in our view marks and improvement on the past: and in both these important branches the result of the examination was highly satisfactory. The following is a statement of the standing of the pupils: - GENERAL PROFICIENCY IN ALL BRANCHES * Ernest TRAPNELL LATIN SPANISH GENERAL PROGRESS SENIOR CLASS JUNIOR CLASS *Arthur APSEY DILIGENCE IN STUDY * Edmund WILLIAMS PENMANSHIP * John BADCOCK REGULAR ATTENDANCE *Edmund WILLIAMS DEPORTMENT Edmund WILLIAMS SPELLING FROM DICTATION THIRD CLASS The names of pupils are placed in the order of merit.
