A Partial Register of Ships Associated with Conception Bay
Wrecked Along the Coast of Newfoundland and Labrador
ANTELOPE: Bay Roberts schooner, DELANEY master, wrecked October 9,
1867 at Curlew Harbour, Labrador with a loss of 18 lives.
S.S. BLUE JACKET: Steam packet on Portugal Cove-Harbour Grace run,
destroyed by fire near Kelly's Island, September 17, 1862. Lady passenger,
Mrs. FOLEY left on burning ship rescued by Henry GOSSE and crew.
BONNIE LASS: Harbour Grace schooner went down near Pouch Cove,
November 20, 1883. Captain D. HOGAN, the mate, John LEARY and
the steward, M. LAHEY drowned.
CECILA: Schooner owned by Mr. PEARCE of Carbonear lost on a voyage
to the ice, April 3, 1872.
GARIBALDI: A 67 ton schooner belonging to Captain William BUTT,
Carbonear, wrecked near Aquaforte in rough seas, December 27, 1880,
crew made it to Aquaforte.
HAPPY HOME: Schooner, P. SHORT master/owner wrecked near
Bay de Verde, June 4, 1907, crew saved.
JOSIE F.: Schooner owned by the BLUNDON family of Bay de Verde
and skippered by Captain Oliver BLUNDON, dragged her anchors and
was wrecked when she ran ashore on Bell Island on November 7, 1937.
All the crew landed safely.
OLINDA: Carbonear vessel, Captain SPENSER master, wrecked at
St. Francis Harbour, Labrador, October 1923.
PRIMUS: Schooner, James DAVIS master, lost off Cape St. Francis,
March 20, 1872, crew saved by the UNION were later landed at Old Perlican.
ROSEMARY G.: STEWART master, wrecked Feather Point,
Harbour Grace, September 16, 1911. Crew saved.
SEBASTAPOL: Steam ship, Captain Ken BARBOUR. Struck the
Brandies off Cape St. Francis and sank, September 15, 1933.
SNOWBIRD: Frank MOORE master, lost at Bay de Verde,
November 24, 1911. Vessel was insured for $1400.
