This is the last will and testament of me Richard Cake of Lameline in the Island of Newfoundland Planter made this second day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three, First I give and bequeath to my wife and family all the money and property I am in possession of as follows and on these conditions, viz, I wish all the money I am possessed of in the hands of Hugh Hoyles Esqr. in St. John’s to remain in his possession as long as my wife survives (but should she (my wife) have occasion to draw part or the whole in the meantime she is at liberty to do so) with the exception of sixty pounds which may be drawn this fall by my wife to defray expenses, the interest of the money remaining in the said Hugh Hoyles’s possession to be disposed of by my wife in any way she may think proper,     I also wish that the house I commenced building be finished for my son George I also wish that the boat Betsey be repaired for George on conditions that George Will assist the others (my sons) in building a house and boat for each should they require it, the house and property to be held in possession by my wife during her lifetime as heretofore by me, but at her death the money and property to be equally divided among my sons who are hereby bound to give each of my daughters a schooner load of timber to build a house, also a cow & calf each, should they (or either of them) get married or be disposed to leave, but should they not marry (my daughters) then they are to live in this house having a room in it to themselves and be supported as long as they (or either of them) may live out of the general fund & property- & I now nominate constitute & appoint James Winter Esqr. of Lamaline Sub-Collector & George Henry Evans of Lameline aforesaid Merchant, executors in trust to this my last will & testament.     Richard Cake (LS)     Signed, sealed & delivered by the above named Richard Cake the testator as his last will & testament in presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto, the same having been first read over to him, James Winter, George H.
