In re will of John Grandy late of Garnish This is the last will and Testament of me John Grandy of Garnish in the Southern District of Newfoundland, Planter. 1st I appoint the Rev. John Hewitt or whatever minister of the Church of England who may be residing at Burin in the said District at my decease to be the executor of this my will I give devise and bequeath my estate as follows: I bequeath to my wife Victoria Grandy my Dwelling house furniture and household effects outhouses stores and wharves together with all land and landed property. Also all fishing boats nets lines (?)inos and fishing gear of all kinds also all money that I may be possessed of at my decease to be hers absolutely during her natural life (provided she does not marry or become the wife of another man after my decease and it is hereby clearly and distinctly understood that should my said wife marry again she is clearly entitled to nothing under this my will) And after her decease the above legaciesshall be and become the property of my two brothers Stephen Henry Grandy and George Grandy, provided as follows. That is to say that my two said brothers shall during the natural life of my said wife do all that may lie in their power to make her comfortable that they shall provide my said wife with all necessary meat and drink as well as decent apparel should she ever require the same and further should any of my said houses require repairs after my decease and my said wife be in a position to supply the necessary material to effect such repairs then my two said brothers shall use up said material in repairing said houses free of cost to my said wife and I hereby revoke all other wills at any time previously made by me and declare this to be my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 19 day of November Anno Domini nineteen hundred and two. John Grandy. This is a codicil to the last will and Testament of me John Grandy of Garnish in the Southern District of Newfoundland, Planter which will bears date the 19 day of November Anno Domini 1902 Should my two brothers Stephen Grandy and George Grandy refuse to carry out my instructions as stated in my said will for the benefit of my wife Victoria Grandy it is my desire that the children of the said brothers become possessors and owners of my said property after her decease It is also understood that my brothers wives nor any of their families are to have any claim on any of my property. I give to Abraham John son of Simeon Grandy a bed and bedstead In all other respects I confirm my said will. John Grandy. Joseph George his X mark Grandy This is a second codicil to the last will and testament of me John Grandy of Garnish in the Southern District of Newfoundland Planter which will and codicil bears the dates of 19th November 1902 and 4th day of September 1903 respectively My last desire is that my wife Victoria Grandy shall have power or liberty to sell any fishing tackle which I may have at my decease (such as nets trawls, rope Lobster traps &c.) Also I desire that at the decease of my wife the valuation of her property is to be settled by arbitration and said property sold and the proceeds to be divided to and for the benefit of the children of my two brothers viz. Stephen Henry Grandy and George Grandy and each child is to have an equal portion of the sum realized by such sale. But should my wife live long enough to become infirm and not able to help herself the child who takes care of her whether male or female is to have a double portion at her death. Also should my wife Victoria Brandy marry again she is only to have a childs portion. Also after my decease as soon as convenient this my last will and testament is to be forwarded to the clergyman of the Church of England residing at Burin to be recorded. In all other respects I confirm my said will. John Grandy.
