Will of John Walsh of Lawn

Lawn September 25th 1917.

I John Walsh of the Settlement of Lawn in the district of Burin Laborer being of sound and disposing mind and memory to make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me at anytime heretofore made. 1st.. I hereby appoint Joseph Benning Magistrate of Lawn to be my executor or of this my last will. directing my said executor to pay all my debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and to provide a headstone to cost in or about $30 out of my estate as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.

2nd.. After the payment of my said debts funeral testamentary expenses and headstone, I give devise and bequeath all my real and personal estate, which I may now or hereafter be possessed of or interested in, in the manner following, that is to say;

3rd.. I give devise and bequeath to my son Lionel Walsh my dwelling house valued at $300, a piece or parcel of land situate between the estate of the late Thomas Edwards and a piece of land owned by John Thomas Edwards, valued at $150. out of money in hand and my life insurance the sum of [$100.] one hundred dollars

4th.. I give devise and bequeath to my grandson Clement Walsh my featherbed and the sum of $100. This money to be placed at interest for him in the Royal Bank of Canada at St. John's until he attains the age of 21 years or should he die before that time it is to revert to his father Lionel Walsh.

5th.. I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Emma Edwards the sum of [$100.] one hundred dollars

6th.. I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Olivia Edwards the sum of $100.00.

7th.. I give devise and bequeath to my daughter Gertie Miles the sum of $100 and a piece of land situated between land owned by Thomas Manning and Michael Grant valued at $100.

8th.. I give and bequeath to my grandson Martin Lamb the sum of [$50.00] Fifty dollars

9th.. I give and bequeath the sum of $60 to be given to Rev. A. J. Maher to offer up masses for the repose of my soul.

10th.. After paying the above the bequests should there be any money left, I give and bequeath the same to be equally divided between my son Lionel and daughter Emma Edwards, Olivia Edwards and Gertie Miles.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty-fifth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and seventeen John Walsh [LS].

Signed Published and Declared by the said John Walsh, the Testator as and for his last will and Testament, in the presence of us, both present together at the same time and in his presence, at his request and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses to the execution thereof Clement J. Benning Patrick J. Brown
