Shoal Bay (Wellington) (renamed to Dover)

From the late 1930's through the mid 1940's, the mail service for Shoal Bay was interrupted and discontinued, mainly because of its low volume, and the confusion of the community name with other communities having the same name, in Newfoundland. During that time the mail service was through neighbouring Hare Bay. The suggestion for a name change went through an extended time period. The first name change was to "Wellington", which was used for a while in the 1940's, but it too did not prove satisfactory for Postal Services. Finally the name "Dover" was agreed upon in a general nomenclature. For this purpose I have copied the Census as it was done in 1945, using both names Shoal Bay (Wellington), and adding "Dover", the name by which it is known today. The list below was transcribed from the microfilm copy of the 1945 Census for Shoal Bay (Wellington), NL at PANL.
