Will of John Hancock
In re

John Hancock deceased.

In the name of God Amen. I John Hancock of Kings Cove Bonavista Bay in the Northern District of the Island of Newfoundland Planter being of sound disposing mind memory and understanding, but mindful of the uncertainty of human life and weak in body do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say first I wish all my just and lawful debts to be paid, also I give devise and bequeath the sum of twenty dollars towards the completion of the church in Goose Bay situated on Goose Head, and all the rest of my property, the fore and after called the Beaver, my land situated in Kinds Cove or Goose Bay, punts, nets, seines, clothes, furniture and such money as shall be left after my just and lawful debts are paid and my funeral expenses, I give devise and bequeath the same to my brother James Hancock and my wife Mary Hancock to be by them enjoyed in equal parts, provided always that if my said wife Mary Hancock shall after my decease be married again, or shall cease to reside in Kings Cove, then I wish her share of property mentioned above to be enjoyed by my brother James Hancock his heirs and assigns forever. Also my dwelling house in Kings Cove aforesaid I give devise and bequeath the same to my wife Mary Hancock absolutely, for her sole use and benefit. Also I hereby appoint Mr. Samuel Brown of Kings Cove and my brother James Hancock aforesaid to be joint executors of this my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name on this twentieth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy six.
