Musgrave Harbour July 1914.
My last will.
I Esau Gillingham I commit my soul into the hands of my Saviour in full confidence that having redeemed it and washed it in his most precious blood he will present it faultless before the throne of my heavenly Father; and I entreat my children to maintain and defend at all hazard and at any cost of personal sacrifice the blessed doctrine of complete atonement for sin through the blood of Jesus Christ once offered and through that alone.My body is to be sent to Ochre-pit-Cove, in the District of Bay-de-Verde and there
buried. For which the sum of $50.00 Fifty dollars will be set aside. Also $60.00 sixty dollars will be set aside to erect my monument. $200.00 Two hundred dollars is to go to my wife and the remainder is to be divided.
$40.00 Forty dollars to my daughter Susie and $94.29 Ninety-four dollars and twenty-nine cents to my son Herbert. In case insurance should be received for my house at Musgrave Harbour, - [which carries $1000.00 one thousand dollars at present] another house is to be built from the said insurance on a site which my son Herbert shall select. My wife is to occupy half of the said house as long as she is my wife or widow; the remaining half is to be the property of my son Herbert. Should my wife re-marry or change her name or in case of her death the whole is the property of my son Herbert.
The land which surrounds my house at Musgrave Harbour is also to be the property of my son Herbert should my wife re-marry or die. My garden at Doting Cove is to be my wife's property; in case she should leave Musgrave
Harbour or change her name it is to go to my daughter Susie. The three enlarged pictures of my first wife Clara Ann, my son Charles and daughter Ethel Beatrice is the property of my son Herbert whenever he may want it. Also the organ at the house is his [Herbert's] whenever he should want it. My land at Musgrave Harbour situated near the Salvation Army headquarters is to be the property of my son Newman. My land at South West Arm Green Bay is the property of my son Newman; also my land at Ochre-pit-Cove is the property of my son Herbert. (?) My sons Herbert and Newman are each to have two acres [total 4 acres] of my land at Botwood in the District of Twillingate. The grant was drawn in my wife's name but the land is cut of (?) on the grant. Please see the grant. N 12851. This is my last will and testimony. Esau Gillingham. Tobias W. Abbott, Robert H. Mercer.
