Will of Edward O'Neill, 1917

This is the last Will and Testament of me, Edward O’Neill of Lawrence, of Topsail Road in the County of St. John’s West made this tenth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and seventeen.

I hereby revoke all Wills made by me at any time heretofore. I appoint my uncle, Thomas Brennan of Topsail Road, St. John’s West, to be my Executor, and direct that all my Debts and Funeral Expenses shall be paid as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.

I give and bequeath unto my mother, Mary Brennan all my possessions, namely a house adjoining that owned by Mr. Peter O’Neil together with ground on which it is built and also my life Insurance with the New York Life Insurance Co. valued (Policy) at one thousand dollars and everything else I am owner of.

TO THE HONOURABLE THE SUPREME COURT OF NEWFOUNDLAND OR ONE OF THE HONOURABLE THE JUDGES THEREOF:

The Petition of Thomas Brennan of St. John’s, Newfoundland, farmer, HUMBLY SHEWETH as follows: -

  1. EDWARD O’NEILL of St. John’s aforesaid, accountant, died at that place on the 3rd. day of June, A.D. 1917
  2. The said deceased left a Will which is hereto annexed marked “A” in and by which your Petitioner is appointed Executor.
  3. The said deceased left him surviving his mother, Mary O’Neill three brothers, John, Patrick and Laurence and two sisters, Bride and Mary Alice, all of St. John’s aforesaid.
  4. The said deceased left property within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court of the probable value of $1100.00 whereof a full and true inventory is hereto annexed marked “B”
  5. No Probate of any will nor Administration of the Estate of the said deceased has been granted to or applied for by any person.

Your Petitioner therefore humbly prays that Letters of Probate of the Estate of the said deceased may be granted to him out of this Honourable Court.

And as in duty bound your Petitioner will ever pray, &c.
