Be it remembered that on the twentieth day of November one thousand
eight hundred and nineteen The Honorable Francis Forbes Chief Justice of
Newfoundland here accordith that on this day came George Rennell of Saint
Johns gentleman and brought a certain Instrument of writing which he prayed
might be recorded in His Majestys Supreme Court. Saint Johns Newfoundland
and it is recorded in these words. (what looks like viz: at the end)
Know all men by these Presents that I Thomas Morris the elder of Saint
Johns in the Island of Newfoundland Fisherman for and in consideration
of the faithful attention and assistance to his parents and also towards
his Brothers and Sisters by Thomas Morris the younger also of Saint Johns
Fisherman in yielding up for their support the balance of his wages for
several years past together a further sum of Twenty one Pounds Sterling
money of Great Britain to me in hand paid at and before the sealing and
delivery of these Presents the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge
have granted, bargained, sold, released and confirmed and by these Presents
have granted, bargained, sold, released and confirmed unto the said Thomas
Morris the younger All that Dwelling House and garden now in my possession
together with a garden situate near the road leading from Apple Tree well
towards Lazy Bank, and also a garden situate near the road leading from
Duckworth Street towards Bulleys Farm, and all and singular the Estate
now remaining and being in Saint Johns aforesaid, and which I now inherit
as Heir to my deceased Grandfather Roger Chick (Cheek) and my late Mother
Jane Morris.
To have and to hold all and singular the said property and every part
thereof by these presents bargained, sold, released, granted and confirmed
unto the said Thomas Morris the younger his Executors, Administrators and
Assigns for ever freely, quietly, peaceably and entirely, without any contradiction,
claim, hindrance or disturbance of any Person whatsoever, and without any
account to me or to any other whomsoeverto be made, answered or hereafter
to be rendered, so that neither I the said Thomas Morris the elder nor
any other for me, or in my name any right, title, interest or demand of
in to, or for the said Premises or any part or parcel thereof ought to
exact, challenge, claim or demand, at any time or times hereafter, but
from all action right, estate, title, claim, demand, possession and interest
thereof shall be wholly barred and excluded by force and virtue of these
Presents - Provided always that the said Thomas Morris the younger shall
and will during his natural life time provide for and give unto each and
every of his Brothers and Sisters during each and every of their natural
lives a support that may be deemed equitable according to the profits or
emoluments that may arise out of or be derived from the said Premises hereby
demised - and if it should so happen that the said Thomas Morris the younger,
should happen to depart this life that their and in that case it shall
and may be lawful, and from thenceforth the said hereby demised Premises
shall be divided rateably between each of his then surviving Brothers and
Sisters, nor shall it be lawful for the said Thomas Morris the younger
to sell, lease or demise the beforementioned Premises or any part thereof
for a longer term than during the natural life of him the said Thomas Morris
the younger any thing herein contained to the contrary notwithstanding

And I the said Thomas Morris the elder for myself my Executors, Administrators
and Assigns all and singular the beforementioned Premises unto the said
Thomas Morris the younger his Executors, Administrators and Assigns against
me the said Thomas Morris the elder and against all and every other person
or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and for ever defend by the
Presents of which said Premises. I the said Thomas Morris the elder have
put the said Thomas Morris the younger in full possession by delivering
unto them the Dwelling House built by me and the said Thomas Morris the
younger and also a Garden belonging to us (looks like aus) adjoining the
same now in my possession, in the name of all the said Premises at the
Sealing and delivery hereof- In witness whereof, I the said Thomas Morris
the elder have hereunto set my hand and Seal at Saint Johns aforesaid where
no stamped paper is used this nineteenth day of November in the sixtieth
year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the grace of
God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. King defender of
the Faith and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and nineteen.

George Rennell of Saint Johns aforesaid gentleman maketh Oath and Saith
that he was present and did see Thomas Morris the elder of Saint Johns
a foresaid Fisherman, make his mark to and in due form of Law seal and
execute the within Instrument of writing and that the same was previously
read over and explained to him
Sworn at Saint Johns aforesaid This first day of January 1820. Before
Me.

NOTE: I believe Thomas Morris "the younger" mentioned above was the
Thomas Morris who moved to Bay St. George. He died on December
