Will of William Drew

In re WILLIAM DREW. DECEASED.

A will. In the name of God, Amen. The thirteenth day of January one thousand eight hundred and forty. I William Drew of Bay Bulls in the Island of Newfoundland being very sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God, therefore calling unto mind the mortality of the body knowing that it is appointed unto all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend unto the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the almighty power of God. And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give, demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: First, I give and bequeath to Daniel Crockwell eldest son of William and Mary Crockwell of Bay Bulls and to his heirs and executors all and singular my lands and property of whatsoever kind and denomination that I now hold and enjoy by him the said Daniel Crockwell freely to be possessed and enjoyed without hindrance of molestation whatsoever. And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul, all and every other former testaments, wills, legacies bequests and executors by me in any ways before named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year above written.

Signed sealed published pronounced and declared by the said William Drew as his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers,

signed Joseph Lannon. Michael Coalman.

And I do hereby further declare that it is my will that the said Daniel Crockwell will neither sell mortgage nor bestow the said land or property that I have will unto him.

A Codicil. Be it known to all men by these presents that I William Drew of Bay Bulls by this present codicil do ratify and confirm my said last will and testament and do give and bequeath unto my beloved brother George Drew his heirs and executors the property now in the possession of James Glenn to be freely and peaceably held and enjoyed by him and his heirs without hindrance or molestation whatsoever.
