In re WILLIAM CHAFE. DECEASED. The last will and testament of William Chafe, Planter, Petty Harbor, Newfoundland. In the name of God amen, the eleventh day of September one thousand eight hundred and forty three. I, William Chafe, of Petty Harbor, Newfoundland, Planter, being old and infirm, but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God, therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed once unto all men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my beloved son Henry Chafe nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Almighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I do hereby give and bequeath to my before-named son Henry Chafe all and singular the property belonging to me in Walter Grave Street, St. John*s, Newfoundland, now in the occupancy of John Funcheon, St. John*s, Also I further give to the said Henry Chafe my son, a garden at present in the occupancy of John Whittle &c. to be by him freely possessed and enjoyed, and after his death to fall into the hands of his children,And I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and disannul all and every other former testaments, wills &c. by me in any ways before named, willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this day and year afore named or above written.
