Will of Thomas Sullivan

In re: THOMAS SULLIVAN. DECEASED.

I Thomas Sullivan of St. John’s, Carpenter, do make this my last will and Testament. I will and bequeath to my daughter Margaret Smith the sum of three hundred dollars with all the interest and compound interest accruing from the sum of one thousand dollars now lying on deposit in my name in the Bank of Montreal at St. John’s.

  • I bequeath to my granddaughter (Sister Joseph) Catherine Smith the sum of one hundred dollars,
  • my grandson George Smith the sum of one hundred dollars.
  • To my granddaughter Johanne Fortune the sum of one hundred dollars.
  • To my granddaughter Mary Agnes Smith the sum of one hundred dollars.
  • To my granddaughter Annie Smith the sum of one hundred dollars.
  • To my granddaughter Josephine Smith the sum of one hundred dollars.
  • To my niece Ellen Mallard the sum of thirty dollars,
  • For Masses for the repose of my soul & of my wife, the sum of twenty dollars.
  • I have fifty dollars to cover my funeral expenses.
To my grandson Thomas Smith I leave all my right, title and interest to and in the dwelling house and ground, now owned by me and situated on the east side of Colonial Street in the town of St. John’s, and to my said grandson Thomas Smith I also leave all my carpenters tools of every description.
To Thomas Smith, the son of my grandson George Smith, I leave my bed and bedding of every kind. I also will and bequeath to my grandson George Smith, my nephew John Cooper and his son James Cooper all my wearing apparel to be equally divided among them
It is my desire that this my last will and Testament be not opened until one month after my death. I appoint John Sullivan of St. John’s Superintendent of Constabulary to be my sole executor Thomas his X mark Sullivan witnessed by In his and each others presence it having first been read over and explained to the testator John J. Burke John Preston
