Will of Thomas Farrell

In re THOMAS FARRELL. DECEASED.

In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Farrell of Saint John's Dealer do make ordain and publish the following as and for my last will and testament. I will direct and desire my executors as soon after my death as they may consider proper to sell and dispose of by public or private sale all my lands houses stock in trade goods chattels and effects to invest the proceeds thereof together with such other monies as I may be possessed of in Government or other reliable securities and to apply the interest arising therefrom in manner following that is to say viz: To my beloved wife they shall pay yearly and every year the sum of fifty pounds currency so long as she remains unmarried and if at any time she should determine on entering a Convent and be therein received and professed as a religious then and in that case I will and direct my executors to pay or cause to be paid her the sum of four hundred pounds currency out of such principal monies so to be invested as aforesaid whereupon said annuity shall cease to be paid my said wife-

I will and direct that my executors shall out of any balance, if any, of the interest so arising and receivable from said investment apply or cause to be applied towards the education of my niece Mary Farrell daughter of Patrick Farrell of Old Grange County Tipperrary such sum as they may think fit and proper to allow for such purpose and if she should desire to enter a convent and become a religious my executors shall pay to such religious institution in which she is professed such amount out of said principal so invested as may in their judgment be reasonable and proper. But if the balance of said monies or funds shall be insufficient to meet or satisfy the said bequest I will and desire that after they shall have paid for the education of my said niece in manner aforesaid my executors shall apply the residue or balance to such charitable and religious purposes as they may deem fit In addition to the bequests already made to my wife I will and desire that my executors shall pay her the several amounts of such annual subscriptions as I am in the habit of giving to charitable and religious objects and that my wife shall continue to give and apply the same to the like charitable and religious purposes All articles of furniture my wife may require from my house I will and bequeath to her- All the rest residue and remainder of my monies chattels and effects I give and bequeath to my executors to be expended and applied by them to and towards such religious and charitable purposes and objects they may consider most deserving of the same- I hereby nominate and appoint the Reverend Father T. McGrath Parish Priest of St. John*s, James O*Donnell, Dealer, and Joseph I. Little Barrister-at-law, executors to this my last will and testament.
