Will of Solomon Butt

In re: SOLOMON BUTT DECEASED.

I Solomon Butt, Shipwright, of St. John’s, Newfoundland, and residing at Eighty Four, Flower Hill, do make this my last Will and Testament. I do give and bequeath to my wife Rosana Butt, the whole of my property, consisting of Four Houses and what money I have on deposit in the Bank of Montreal and in the Government’s Saving Bank. After her death, in the event of her outliving me, I do hereby will that the distribution of my Property shall be divided as follows, among my three children Edward Thomas Butt, Emily Currie and Victoria Vincent.

To Edward Thomas, my only son, I give and bequeath (to take effect after his mother’s demise) the house I now occupy, and own, together with all it contains. I also give him the sum of two hundred dollars, now invested in the Saving’s and Bank of Montreal.

To Emily Currie, my eldest daughter, I give and bequeath my house on Cabot Street number, One hundred and thirty nine. I also give and bequeath to her the sum of two hundred dollars, from the cash on deposit in above named Banks.

To Victoria Vincent, my youngest daughter I give and bequeath the house on Flower Hill, Number Eighty three; also the sum of two hundred dollars from my cash deposits in the Banks already named.

The one and only remaining House; situated on Flower Hill, No. 81, in the event of its being sold, the amount realized, is to be equally divided between my three children, herein named. Edward, Emily and Victoria. If rented the rental, also has to be divided equally between the three. Whatever money is remaining after our decease has to be distributed equally between the three children Edward, Emily & Victoria.

I do hereby appoint my wife, Rosana Butt, Executrix of this my last Will & Testament, and I hereby revoke all former Wills and Codicils by me made.

In witness whereof I have subscribed these presents at St. John’s, this 10th day of June 1913. SOLOMON BUTT. Signed by the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in presence of us, who at his request in his presence, and in presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses: MARK PUDDESTER GEORGE WIGHT

NOTE: Added the 13th day of May 1921. In view of the fact that my wife Rosanna who was named as Executrix of the above has predeceased me I do hereby name and appoint Allan Currie as sole Executor of this Testament SOLOMON his X mark BUTT.
