Will of Samuel H. Garland

IN RE:   SAMUEL H. GARLAND.    DECEASED

This is the last will and testament of me, Samuel H. Garland of St. John's, Newfoundland, tidewaiter retired.

I hereby revoke any will by me heretofore made and declare this to be my last will.

I appoint my nephew, Joseph D. Halfyard of St. John's aforesaid, grocer, sole executor of this my will.

I bequeath to my sister-in-law, Olivia Sparkes of Lynn in the United States of America the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00)

I bequeath to each of the daughters of the said Olivia Sparkes, namely Agnes and Louise, the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00)

I bequeath to David Sparkes son of the said Olivia Sparkes the sum of one thousand dollars ($1000.00)

I bequeath to my niece, Elizabeth Cummings, the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00)

I bequeath to my wife's cousin, Agnes Rowe, the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00)

I bequeath to my nephew James Garland and to his wife Eliza Garland each the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00)

I bequeath to my nephew Harry garland now in the United States of America the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250.00)

I bequeath to my nieces Sarah Froude and Caroline Duffett each the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00)

I bequeath to my nephew Samuel Garland of Stephen the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150.00)

I bequeath to my nephew Joseph garland of Stephen the sum of one hundred dollars ($100.00)

I bequeath to my niece Annie LeShane the sum of one hundred dollars ($100.00)

I bequeath to my cousin Hedley V. Garland the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00)

I desire that the whole of my estate be realized immediately after my death and that after the payment of my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses and the bequests aforesaid there shall be paid out of the balance to the Methodist orphanage the sum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) and the residue and remainder I bequeath to my said nephew and executor, Joseph D. Halfyard.

In witness whereof I have subscribed my hand hereto at St. John's this second day of January nineteen hundred and twenty four.
