Will of Richard Harvey
In re

Richard Harvey deceased.

In the name of God Amen, I Richard Harvey of St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland Master Carpenter being weak and infirm in body but of sound mind memory and understanding do make this my last will and testament, as follows, namely, After all my lawful debts and funeral expenses are paid, I give devise and bequeath to my wife Eliza Harvey for her use and support and that of her children during her lifetime, free from the control of any future husband she may have; all that piece or parcel of ground in fee simple situate at River Head in the town of St. John’s aforesaid the extent and description of which can be ascertained on reference to a Bill of Sale thereof now in my possession dated the twenty fourth of February eighteen hundred and fifty three, Also all my interest in the land and buildings thereon held by me from George Stevens under lease dated the twenty eighth of September eighteen hundred and forty four, reference being thereunto had will more fully appear- Also three shares in the Commercial Bank of Newfoundland- Also a mortgage for the sum of fifty pounds currency held by me on property of Mr. William Guzzle situate on the north side of the Bay Bulls Road which said mortgage deed is dated the eighteenth of October eighteen hundred and fifty two reference being thereunto had will more fully appear- Also another mortgage for the sum of twenty five pounds currency held by me from Joseph Gribble Junior on leasehold property which said mortgage deed is dated the sixth of April eighteen hundred and fifty five- And all monies debts and other personal estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever that may be due owing or belonging to me at the time of my decease all of which shall be free from the control of any future husband the said Eliza Harvey may have. And after the decease of the said Eliza Harvey the same to be equally distributed and divided among the then surviving children of the said Eliza and Richard Harvey share and share alike. And lastly I appoint John Magor of St. John’s Newfoundland Gentleman and Thomas Witthycombe of same place Cooper to be the executors of this my will- In witness whereof I the said Richard Harvey have hereunto set my hand and seal at St. John’s aforesaid this twenty third day of June Anno Domini one thousand eight hundred and sixty.
