Richard Carnell deceased,

This is the last will and testament of Richard Carnell Wheel- wright of St. John’s. I Richard Carnell being at this time weak in body but of sound mind do make my last will and testament as follows: All my proper-ty whatsoever of which I die possessed after payment of my just debts I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth Jane Carnell to be held and managed by her during her life time for her benefit and the benefit of our children who remain with her any of our children who marry or who shall for any cause separate themselves from her and the rest of the family, so long as they remain apart to forfeit for the time being all claim upon the property. Should however my wife aforesaid at any time marry again I hereby constitute my brothers Samuel George Carnell and William Carnell trustees for the manage-ment of my estate and do appoint that my said estate shall pass into their hands for the benefit of my children giving them hereby power to do whatso-ever is just and equal for the benefit of my family. And I do hereby con- statute and appoint my brothers Samuel George Carnell and William Carnell to  be the executors of this my last will and testament in proof whereof I hereby set my hand at St. John’s this twenty eighth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five. I do further ordain and appoint that should my wife Elizabeth Jane Carnell die before my youngest child shall have come to full age my brothers above mentioned shall act as Trus tees with the full powers already given them in the event of my wife’s marriage but that when my youngest child shall have come to the age of twenty one years my property shall then be divided should my wife’s death have already taken place for the benefit of our surviving children.
