Will of Rebecca Garland Marshall

In re: REBECCA GARLAND MARSHALL . DECEASED.

1. I, Rebecca Garland Marshall of St. John’s, widow, hereby revoke all testamentary dispositions heretofore made by me and declare this to be my last will.

2. I devise and bequeath the following pecuniary legacies:-
(A) To my son J. Charles Marshall, Wardrobe in spare room and all pictures in my late husbands bedroom.
(B) To my son William A. Marshall the picture by "Dorie" in spare bedroom, also overmantle in sitting room on second floor.
(C) To my daughter Agnes E. Pearson, during her life time, my gold locket and chain, when at her death to my granddaughter Maud I. Pearson, absolutely, also to my daughter Agnes E. Pearson one fur cape.
(D) To my daughter Maud J. Dryden of Scranton, Pa.
(1) $700 cash
(2) one seal coat
(3) all souvenir spoons with case
(4) all cut glass.
(E) To my son Alexander Marshall
(1) $500 cash
(2) one solitaire diamond ring
(3) all my postage stamps
(4) one grandfather’s hall clock
(5) one davenport, lounge and chair in drawing room
(6) one chest of drawers, made in mahogany, in spare room
(7) oil paintings of myself and my late husband
(8) all silver spoons with the initials "A. & R.M."
(F) To my son George Sellers Marshall
(1) $1500 cash
(2) all furniture in my late husbands bedroom
(3) hand painted china tea set
(4) knives and forks.
(G) To my daughter in law Amy L. Marshall
(1) $500 cash
(2) one green chair and two pictures (Shepherds) in drawing room.
(H) To my grandson Kelvin H.A. Marshall $500 cash.
(I) To my daughter in law Edith Marshall $500 cash.
(J) To my grandson Leslie Marshall $500 cash.
(K) To my sister Mary Ann Christian $500 cash
(L) To my friend Sarah Garland of St. John’s, wife of Samuel Garland $500 cash, also furniture in room known as "Charlie’s room"
(M) To my sister Eliza Hudson $500 cash.
(N) To my sister Sarah Freeman $500 cash; one fur lined coat and all furniture and effects in the bedroom now occupied by her at my house, also one brooch.
(O) To my sister Bessie Garland $500 cash.
(P) To my brother Herbert Louis $500 cash, piano, clock and one carpet.
(Q) To my brother John Louis $500 cash, organ, clock and one carpet.
( R) To my sister Susie Dryden $500 cash
(S) To my nephew Bond Cross $250 cash.
(T) I bequeath what remains of my jewellery not disposed of to my daughters Agnes and Maud share and share alike.
(U) I devise and bequeath unto my sisters living at my death all my clothes together with all the furniture in the top rooms which has not already been provided for, share and share alike.
(V) To my nephew Alexander Hudson of Lower Island Cove $100 cash.
(W) I devise and bequeath all the residue of my estate and effects unto my sons Alexander and George Sellers Marshall, absolutely, share and share alike.

3. I appoint my said sons Alexander and George Sellers Marshall, executors of this my will. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand at St. John’s this 27th day of March A.D. 1913. Rebecca Garland Marshall Signed by the said Rebecca Garland Marshall as her last will, in the presence of us, who in her presence, at her request, and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses Annie Matthews. This is a codicil of my last will and testament aforesaid, which bears date the 27th day of March A.D. 1913.
1. Whereas in my said will aforesaid of date the 27th day of March A.D. 1913 under sub-section "F" of section 2 I devised to my son George Sellers Marshall Fifteen hundred ($1500.00) dollars cash now I hereby declare that from the said sum of Fifteen hundred dollars I hereby bequeath to my son John Charles Marshall the sum of Five hundred ($500.00) dollars and my daughter Agnes Elizabeth Pearson at present of Toronto the sum of Five hundred dollars ($500.00) thereby leaving the total sum bequeathed to my said son George Sellers Marshall the sum of Five hundred ($500.00) dollars instead of the sum of Fifteen hundred ($1500.00) dollars as stated in sub-section "F" of section 2 of my will aforesaid.
2. Also I give, devise and bequeath to my daughter in law Lilla Marshall the sum of Five hundred ($500.00) dollars to be taken from the residue of my estate referred to in sub-section "W" of Section 2 of my will aforesaid.
3. In all other respects I confirm my said will aforesaid. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand at St. John’s this 26th day of November A.D. 1915. Rebecca G. Marshall. Signed by the said Rebecca Garland Marshall as her last codicil, in the presence of us, who in her presence, at her request, and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses, Allan G. Hudson, J.P. Bertha Morris.
