Will of Patrick Devan from Newfoundland will books volume 4 page 201 probate year 1882

In re
          Patrick Devan deceased.

I Patrick Devan of St. John’s Farmer do make and publish this as and for my last will and testament.     As regards that piece of land on the north side of the road leading Westerly along the North Bank of Monday’s Pond in the neighbourhood of St. John’s now used and occupied by me I give and bequeath the same to my two daughters Elizabeth and Ellen in equal shares between them but in the event of the death of either without lawful issue her surviving the share of the daughter so dying shall become and be the property of the survivor. And I do direct that the share of each of my daughters shall be held independently of any husband she may have and further that no daughter of mine or other party inheriting the said share shall have any power or right to sell mortgage or in any wise part with the said property.
