  Patrick Murphy deceased. In the name of God Amen. I Patrick Murphy of Saint John’s Shopkeeper do make ordain and publish the following as and for my last will and testament First To my nephew John Lannan and my niece Mary Lannan I will and bequeath all my leasehold interest in and to that land dwelling house shop and premises now occupied by me in Water Street and also my stock in trade furniture and other chattels in said house to have, hold and possess the same as tenants in common share and share alike- To my executors hereinafter named I will and bequeath all that land dwelling house and premises situate in Water Street and opposite the premises known as Hunters and now occupied by my tenant McKenzie to have and to hold the same by my executors in trust for the following uses and purposes first from and out of the rents received therefrom I will and direct my executors to pay over to the Roman Catholic Bishop of Saint John’s the sum of ten pounds currency per year for five years for the celebration of an annual High Mass during that time for the repose of my soul and that of my late beloved wife Catherine Second Out of the same fund I will and desire my executors to pay towards the education support and maintenance of my nephew Patrick Murphy the sum of six pounds per annum for the space of five years and out of the same fund or rents I will and direct my executors to pay towards the completion of Saint Patricks Church River Head in this town the sum of five pounds per year and also out of said rents I will and direct the payment of the sum of five pounds per year to be paid by my executors to the support of the Orphans at Saint Michaels Orphanage Belvidere and also the sum of five pounds per annum to be paid by my executors to and towards the support of the Christian Brothers or towards the maintenance of their schools conducted in Saint Patricks Hall in this town- I will and bequeath to the Reverends Fathers Ryan and Scott of this town five pounds each for Masses to be offered up by them for the repose of my soul and that of my wife. All the rest residue and remainder of my lands chattels monies and effects of every description and kind whatsoever I will and bequeath to my said nephew John Lannan and my said niece Mary Lannan share and share alike I nominate and appoint my friends Michael Rice and Robert J. Kent Barrister at law executors of this my last will and testament Dated at Saint John’s this 31st May 1880. Patrick his X mark Murphy. Witness Mrs B. Magrath, J. I. Little.
