Will of Patrick Gleeson

In re PATRICK GLEESON. DECEASED.

This is the last will and testament of me Patrick Gleeson of St. John*s Newfoundland, Blacksmith, I give devise and bequeath to my son James for the term of his natural life all that farm on the Torbay Road now in my possession and known as the "House farm" containing about twenty acres, and after the decease of my said son I devise and bequeath the said farm to John, the eldest son of my said son James and his heirs for ever.     I give and bequeath to such person as for the time being may b e the head of the Roman Catholic Church in Newfoundland the sum of five pounds per annum for three years, such sum to be expended in suffrages for my soul conceiving that by the conveyance heretofore made by me to my daughter Margaret Parker of the farm on the west side of the Torbay Road I have already given to her such share of my estate as she is fairly entitled to.

I give devise and bequeath to my said son James and his heirs (after the payment of my just debts and funeral expenses) the premises at River Head and those on Admirals Beach held by me under Government leases, the interest I possess in the tenement held by me under the executors of Dennis Hannigan, the farm upon the Torbay Road known as Clarkes farm containing about fifty acres, my stock in trade, furniture, monies, and all other my real and personal estate of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever the same may be situated.     Lastly, I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my said son James sole executor of this my will.

Signed published and declared by the said testator as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request have hereto subscribed our names as witnesses this twenty ninth day of February A.D. 1848.
