Will of Patrick Cormack

In re PATRICK CORMACK. DECEASED.

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost Amen I the undersigned Patrick Cormack of the South side of Salmonier in the Parish of St. Mary’s through the goodness of Almighty God enjoying the full use of my mental faculties do hereby declare this paper to contain my last will and testament which I desire to be faithfully executed after my death

1st I recommend my soul to God and resign it into the bosom of His Mercy and desire that my body be devoutly buried in the graveyard of Salmonier

2nd I desire that my wife Bridget should never be forced to submit to the authority or controll of any other person but should continue as at present in the management of my household affairs; that she should be provided for and supported by her sons John and Patrick all living together and acting conjointly in the business of the fishery If however both or either wish hereafter to separate I give my wife Bridget power to divide the property on shore equally between them, the floating property (by which I mean my fishing crafts and all their appurtenances) remaining inseparable in which case the obligation of maintaining and submitting to the controll of my wife shall devolve on the possessor of this the family residence

3rd I give and bequeath to my daughter Ellen three hundred pounds (£300) Lastly I do nominate and appoint my much respected friends John Goff and William Curtiss both of Salmonier as the executors and witnesses of this my will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto signed my hand this fourth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy five (1875)

Patrick his X mark Cormack, witnesses, William Curtiss, John Goff.
