Will of Nicholas Roche

In re: NICHOLAS ROCHE. DECEASED.

In the name of God, Amen. I, Nicholas Roche P.P. of Witless Bay, Newfoundland, make this my last will and testament annulling all former wills.

After paying my debts and funeral expenses I will and bequeath the sum of one hundred dollars to purchase a headstone for my grave; the sum of one thousand dollars for the repose of my soul and for my intentions to be sent to Malleray for Masses to be said immediately after my death; two hundred dollars to be sent to Malleray for Masses I may owe and for my intentions; one thousand dollars for the education of Michael Leamy for the priesthood, and should he give up studying for the priesthood, the said one thousand dollars, or the balance of it which may be remaining is to be given for the education of a student for the Archdiocese of St. John's.

I will and bequeath the sum of five hundred dollars towards the education of Rita Leamy.

I will and bequeath the sum of five hundred dollars towards the education of Gertie Leamy.

I will and bequeath the sum of five hundred dollars to the Rev. C.A. McCarthy C.C. of Witless Bay.

I will and bequeath nine hundred and seventy three dollars and thirty three cents to my niece, Katie Roche, Levitstown, Duncormick, Co. Wexford, Ireland.

I will and bequeath two hundred dollars to the Convent. Witless Bay.

I will and bequeath five hundred dollars for Witless Bay N.S.(?) Church;

one thousand dollars to be sent to Malleray for Masses for my relatives, friends and others living and dead for whom I may be bound to pray.

I will and bequeath five hundred dollars to Bay Bulls Roman Catholic Church.

I will and bequeath the property which I purchased from Martin Lambert at Bay Bulls, and the forest land attached to it to the R.C. Church Bay Bulls.

I will and bequeath the property I purchased from Mrs. Michael Driscoll Bay Bulls and the cleared land and forest land at the Good Water to the R.C. Church, Bay Bulls.

I will and bequeath my furniture, books, papers, cattle, carriages sleighs, farm utensils, hay, and all other property which I may have at the time of my death to Witless Bay Convent.

I will and bequeath the residue of my money and goods to the Convent, Witless Bay.

I will and bequeath my gold watch to my nephew, James Roche, Kilrana, Wexford, Ireland.

I will my silver watch to my nephew, James Roche, Levitstown, Duncormick, Wexford, Ireland.

I will my portrait to my friends in Levitsown

I will my oil-stocks to Fr. Tierney PP Petty Harbor, my pyxos(?) to the Rev. C.A. McCarthy C. C. Witless Bay.

I appoint as my executors Rev. C. A. McCarthy Witless Bay and Rev. R. Tierney, P.P. Petty Harbor.
