Will of Nathaniel Batten from Newfoundland will books volume 10 page 271 probate year 1914

In re

    NATHANIEL BATTEN      deceased.

    In the name of God Amen     I Nathaniel Batten of Bell Island in Conception Bay Newfoundland being perfectly sound in mind, memory and understanding do make this my last will and testament
1st I give devise and bequeath to my wife Susannah Batten all my land on Bell Island containing three and a half (3 ½) acres more or less and all the houses and property on said land until such time as she may marry again in which case all the land and property aforesaid belongs to my son Nathaniel Batten. Also that my daughter Harriet shall live on this land while she is unmarried.     Also that after the death of my wife all the aforesaid property & land shall belong to my son Nathaniel Batten.
2nd I give devise and bequeath to my son Nathaniel Batten my land situate at CLARKES BEACH Conception Bay and containing one acre more or less.
3rd I hereby appoint the Rev. J. Stead at present Incumbent of Bell Island executor of this my last will & testament     Signed Nathaniel his X mark Batten     Signed sealed and declared by the said testator in the presence of us who in his presence, at his request, and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses this twelfth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and fourteen the same having been first read over to him and explained     Witnesses Revd J. Stead     William Bennett Sr.
