Will of Moses Dowden

In re: MOSES DOWDEN. DECEASED.

In the name of God. Amen. I Moses Dowden of Chamberlains Conception Bay in the Island of Newfoundland, Farmer; do make this my last will and Testament: that is to say First and principally. I commend by soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it, and my body to the ground to be buried in decent Christian Burial according to the Rites of the Church of England knowing that I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God.

And as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life. I give and dispose of the same in the following manner and form: my land at Chamberlains, bounded on the north by Esau Fowler and on the East by private road, on the south by Thomas Dowden, and on the west by Allan Chaytor: I give to my beloved wife, Emma Dowden: while she lives, and after her death said land shall belong to Susannah Newell, my wife’s daughter, while my wife lives Robert Newell shall have the use of said land and pay my wife a nominal rent for the same.

Witness my hand and seal at Chamberlains This 20th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and four. Moses his X mark Dowden Signed and Sealed after being read over to him in the presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses W. Swansbourgh J.
