In re: MICHAEL T. KNIGHT . DECEASED.
This is the last will and testament of me Michael T. Knight of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Retired Civil Servant:-
1. I revoke all former testamentary dispositions.
2. I appoint my nephew, Herbert E. Knight, Solicitor, executor of this my will.
3. - To my brother James R. Knight I leave the large portrait of myself, the vase of artificial flowers which belonged to my father.
- To my nephew James St. Pierre Knight I leave the framed portraits of myself and of my late wife, also my share of my father’s silver, and the gold watch and chain which I usually wear.
- To my nephew Herbert E. Knight I leave the framed portraits of my father and mother, as well as my Journals of the Legislative Council and House of Assembly, my Acts of Parliament and all books relating to Newfoundland.
- To my nephew Francis H. Knight, son of Herbert E. Knight I leave my Lingard History and Newfoundland Men.
- To my nephew Harold S. Knight I leave my set of the works of Charles Dickens, and to Reginald and Edward, the sons of Herbert E. Knight I leave ten volumes each of books to be chosen by their father.
- To James St. Pierre Knight I leave my American Encyclopedia,
- to the children of Herbert E. Knight I leave my Encyclopedia Porthensis and to my friend the Reverend Frederick Matthews I leave my Biblical Cyclopaedia.
- My father’s Family Bible I leave to my sister Selina Hayfield.
- The remainder of my books I leave to my executor to be disposed of as he may think fit.
- To my sister-in-law Mary Knight I leave the picture on the easel on my drawing room.
- I leave the picture of John Wesley preaching to a number of ministers to the Cochrane Street Sunday School and the picture of Wesley Church I leave to the Wesley Church Sunday School.
- To my friend Hattie Vincent I leave the Scene on Rennie’s River, the Scene in Persie, Live’s Reverie, the portrait of John Wesley and the motto "Christ yesterday today and forever."
- The fish slice and fork in case I leave to my sister Selina Hayfield.
- My wife’s gold watch and chain I leave to her niece Emma March, the daughter of Nathaniel March, and the gold watch with porcelain face I leave to Wesley March, son of Nathaniel March.
- To my housekeeper Bertha Cooper I leave the picture of a Woman and child in the drawing room and the midnight scene (picture of a ship) on the stairs.
- The two inlaid desks and small cabinets and the writing stand in the drawing room I leave to my brother James R. Knight and my nephew Herbert E. Knight.
- The presentation portraits of Sir Robert Bond I leave to my nephew Herbert E. Knight.
- All the remainder of the photographs and small nick nacks I leave to my nephew Herbert E. Knight to be disposed of at his discretion.
4. I leave the sum of fifty dollars to my executor to be deposited in the Savings Bank, out of which and the interest thereon the plot in the cemetery in which my wife and I shall lie shall be kept in good order. - To my sister Selina Hayfield I leave the sum of fifty dollars.
- To my niece Florence Canning I leave the sum of twenty-five dollars.
- To James Canning, infant son of the said Florence Canning I leave the sum of ten dollars to be placed in the Savings bank and paid to him with the accumulations thereof when he shall come of age.
- To my housekeeper Bertha Cooper I leave the sum of four hundred dollars.
5. All the rest residue and remainder of my estate I direct that my executor shall convert into money and pay the income thereof during her lifetime to my sister Selina Hayfield. After the death of my said sister my executor shall divide the principal thereof equally amongst the children of my deceased sister Emily Duke who shall be then surviving. 6. I leave ten dollars to George, son of Florence Canning, to be deposited in the Savings Bank and paid to him with the accumulations thereof when he reaches the age of twenty one years. Dated at St. John’s this 17th day of January A.D. 1911. Michael T. Knight. This is a codicil to the last will and testament of me Michael T. Knight of St. John’s Newfoundland. I leave to Bertha I. Barbour all the silver belonging to me which is now in my sideboard in the dining room, in which of course is not included the silver belonging to Mitchell’s Estate and to Mrs. Hayfield. I leave to my servant Sarah Cooper twenty-five dollars and to her sister Emma I leave twenty-five dollars. Dated at St. John’s this 17th day of November A.D. 1913. Michael T. Knight.
