In re
Michael Power deceased. In the name of God Amen. I Michael Power of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland, Shopman with Mr. William Flinn Shopkeeper do make the following as and for my last will and testament- First- I give and bequeath the following sums of money for Masses for the good of my soul. namely to the Reverend Jeremiah O'Donnell the sum of five pounds, to the Reverend Richard O'Donnell the sum of two pounds, to the Reverend John Vereker the sum of two pounds, to the Reverend Thomas O'Connor of Portugal Cove in said Island the sum of two pounds. Second, I give and bequeath to Mrs. Mary Donovan wife of Mr. John Donovan of St. John's the sum of 5 (£s; 5) pounds in satisfaction and payment for her labor care and attention bestowed on me in my sickness, the said sum to be taken by her and applied free of the control or disposal of her said husband. Third- I give and bequeath forty shillings to Bridget Whelan daughter of Mr. William Whelan a crippled person living near Mr. Brazil's in St. John's. Fourth, I give and bequeath to the said William Flinn out of my wages due by him to me at my decease the sum of six pounds that is in case he choses to take the same to reimburse him for any money or charge that my not have been accounted for between him and me in the way of business. Fifth, After the payment of all my debts funeral and testamentary expenses, including a head stone and grave, I give the rest residue and remainder of my money property assets and effects of every description and wheresoever situate and being unto my beloved sister Catherine Power, wife of Edward Power of the Parish of Rea Gormack in the County of Waterford Ireland, farmer- for her to take the same for her exclusive use and benefit free and clear of the control or disposal of her husband. Sixth, I declare and direct that said respective sums of money so bequeathed as aforesaid shall be paid by my executors in the current money of the said Island of Newfoundland. Seventh, I do hereby appoint Messrs. William Flinn and Patrick Finn both of St. John's Shopkeepers executors of this my last will and testament. Dated at St. John's in the said Island this twenty ninth day of October A.D. 1863.
