In re MICHAEL POWER: DECEASED. In the name of God Amen. I Michael Power (Cooper) native of the city of Waterford Ireland and member (tho’ unworthy) of the Holy Roman Catholic Apostolic Church, but resident of St. John’s Newfoundland for the last fifty years being in sound and perfect health of mind and body I hereby make this my last will and testament First I bequeath my soul to God and hope through the intercession of the blessed Virgin Mary the Immaculate Mother of God to be admitted into His Heavenly Kingdom. Next I bequeath to my three children Maryan Power Eleanor Power Feehan widow of the late Capt. John Feehan and my son Michael power the whole of the amount in cash of which I am owner namely the sum lent by me to the Government of the Colony of Newfoundland and bearing interest therefrom and for which I hold debenture, also the whole of the amount in cash deposited by me in the Union Bank of Newfoundland and for which I hold the Bank receipts Also the whole amount deposited by me in the Savings Bank in St. John’s Nfld and for which I hold the Bank receipt Book. Together with all the interest due on these sums in said Banks and Government office. The whole of said sums in case of my death to be equally divided between my three children above mentioned in share and share alikeI also bequeath to my two daughters Mary Ann and Eleanor above mentioned the two eastern houses of the block in Georges Street in which we at present reside the said Maryan Power to have her choice and both daughters paying half the ground rent and taxes of the whole block on said Georges Street I also bequeath to my son Michael Power above mentioned the two western houses of said block in Geos St he paying half the yearly ground rent and taxes of the whole block and all three insuring their own interest in said houses I also bequeath the two houses and garden fronting on Buchanan Street to my son Michael Power above mentioned except the small yard in the rear of the two houses left to my two daughters upon which no erection or obstruction shall be placed except with their consent the said Michael Power paying all the ground rent and taxes on said two houses in Buchanan St. I also bequeath to my daughter Maryan Power all the cash I may be possessed of and which cash is in my box out of which in case of my death I command her to pay to the Rt Rev. Bishop Power the sum of twenty five pound currency to help in the erection of St. Patrick’s Church at River Head and also to pay to the Revd Father Ryan of St. Mary’s Five pound cy to Revd Dr Howley of St. John’s five pound cy and to two other priests resident in St. John’s five pound cy each for the purpose of celebrating Masses for the repose of my soul and also five pound cy to be divided in equal parts between the four priests for the purpose of celebrating Masses for the repose of the soul of my son Francis Power deceased all the Masses to be offered up weekly until the sums mentioned are expended I also command my daughters Maryan and Eleanor to pay for the education in the best Catholic Schools of my grand daughter Mary Bridget Anne Feehan and to take care that she is brought up in the principles of the Holy Catholic Church I also command my son said Michael Power to do all in his power for the interest and protection of his sisters and my granddaughter I appoint Mary Ann Power Eleanor Feehan and Michael Power my daughters and son executors of this my last will and testament Dated at St. John’s this 18th day of June A.D. 1872.
