Be it remembered that on this tenth day of September in the second year of the Reign of our sovereign Lord William the Fourth by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c. and in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty one personally appeared Sarah Doherty of St. John widow Michael Scanlon & John Walsh (the first ) of the same place dealers & James Lane of St. John’s Tailor? and did acknowledge themselves to be held and firmly bound to the said Lord the King his Heirs and Successors in the penal Sum of three thousand Pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain, to be had, made and levied on their Goods, Chattels and Effects if Default is made in any of the Conditions following:

Now the Condition of this Obligation is such, That if the above bounden Sarah Doherty and Michael Scanlon Administratrixand Administrator of the estate and effects of Michael Doherty late of St. Johns in the Island of Newfoundland Dealer deceased, do make, or cause to be made, a just, true and perfect inventory of all and singular, the Goods, Credits, and Effects of the said deceased, which have or shall come to the hands, possession, or knowledge of them the said Sarah Doherty and Michael Scanlon or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons, for them and the same so made do exhibit, or cause to be exhibited, into the Supreme Court of Newfoundland, at or before the sixth day of September next ensuing the date hereof; and the said Goods, Chattels, Credits, and Effects, and all the other Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, at the time of his death, or which at any time afterwards shall come to the hands or possession of them the Sarah Doherty Michael Scanlon or to the hands or possession of any other person or persons for them shall well and truly administer according to Law, and further shall make, or cause to be made, a just and true Account of their said Administration, on or before the sixth day of September which will be in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and thirty one and afterwards from time to time as they shall be lawfully required. And all the rest, residue and remainder of the said Goods, Chattels, Credits and Effects, which shall be found remaining upon the said Administration Account, the same being first examined and allowed by the said Supreme Court of Newfoundland, shall and do pay and dispose of in a due course of Administration, or in such a manner as the said Court shall direct; -- then this Obligation to be void and of no effect, or else to be and remain in full force and virtue.

We do swear that we believe Michael Doherty of Cushinstown? in the county of Wexford in Ireland But lately of St. Johns aforesaid dealer deceased, died with out a Will; and that we will well and truly Administer all and every the Goods of the said deceased, and pay his Debts so far as his Goods will extend; and that we will exhibit a true, full and perfect Inventory of the said Goods of the deceased , and render a true account of their Administration into the Registry of the said Court, within Twelve months from the date hereof, or when we shall be thereunto lawfully required; and that the whole of the Goods, Rights, Chattels, Assets, Credits and Effects of the said deceased, which he died possessed of, within the jurisdiction of this Court, do not according to the best of my knowledge, judgment and belief, amount to the value of one thousand and five hundred Pounds Sterling.

Be it remembered that on the sixth day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty one before the Honorable Richard Alexander Tucker Chief Judge and the Honorable Augustus Mallet DesBarres and Edward Brabazon Brenton Assistant judges of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland came Michael Scanlan of St. Johns dealer John Walsh the first of the same place dealer and James Lane of the same place tailor and did acknowledge themselves jointly and severally to owe onto our Sovereign Lord the King his heirs and successors the sum of two thousand pounds of lawful sterling money of Great Britain to be levied of their goods chattels lands or tenements.

The condition of their recognizance is such that if the said Michael Scanlan do and shall sell and truly perform and discharge all the duties which appertain and belong to him as later? of the persons and ? and guardians of the estate of James Doherty, Mary Doherty, Sarah Doherty, and Michael Doherty the infant children of the late Michael Doherty deceased then their recognizance to be void, otherwise to be and ? in full force and virtue.

The petition of Sarah Doherty Humbly showeth That Michael Doherty of the Parish of Cushinstown County Wex ford Ireland, but late of Saint Johns Dealer the husband of your Petr. On the ninth day of August last died intestate, leaving four children, namely James Doherty, about eleven years old, Mary six, Sarah, four and Michael Doherty two years old. Also property nearby to the amount of £1500. That your Petr. Is desirous of obtaining Letters of Administration to his estate and that Michael Scanlan, and James Lane both of Saint Johns. Dealers, are willing to join Petr in a bond for the due Administration of the said estate.

Your Petr. prays your Lord-ships to direct letters of Admini-tration to be granted to her accordingly

Administration Notice

All persons having demands against the estate of Michael Doherty of the Parish of Cushinstown County Wexford Ireland, deceased are desired to present their accounts to the subscriber for adjustment and all those who may be indebted to the said estate are requested to make immediate payment to Administration Saint Johns Newfoundland
