Newfoundland will books volume 2 pages 310-311 probate year 1858. This will is inserted in the will book chronologically with the year 1858, but it says in the will that it was signed in 1859.

In re MAURICE HURLEY: DECEASED. In the name of God Amen, I Maurice Hurley of Saint John’s in the Central District of the Island of Newfoundland, Master Mariner, being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do hereby make my last will and testament in manner following that is to say, I direct that my body be decently interred and all lawful debts which may be owing by me to any person whomsoever shall be paid as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. I will and bequeath unto the Right Reverend Doctor Mullock the sum of five pounds currency towards the support of the Roman Catholic Female Orphanage. I will and bequeath unto the Reverend Jeremiah O’Donnell the sum of three pounds currency for the celebration of Masses for the repose of my soul. I will and bequeath unto the Reverend Richard O’Donnell the sum of three pounds currency for the celebration of Masses for the repose of my soul. I will and bequeath unto the Reverend William Forrestal the sum of two pounds currency for the celebration of Masses for the benefit of my mother Ellen Hurley Barnage. I will and bequeath unto the Reverend John Vereker the sum of two pounds currency for the repose of the soul of Edward Barnage. I will and bequeath unto Mrs. Mary Lynch the sum of five pounds currency. I will and bequeath unto Miss Anne Lynch the sum of five pounds currency. I will and bequeath unto Captain Patrick Lynch my silver watch, bed and bedding and all my nautical effects. I desire that the best of my wearing apparel shall be sent home to my brother John and my course clothing to be given to the poor- The rest residue and remainder of my estate to be sent to my mother Ellen Hurley Barnage of Ballydaheen near Youghal County of Cork Ireland to be sent to the care of Thomas Harvey Esq. Youghal for her use and benefit. It is my will and desire that a suitable headstone shall be provided by my executors out of my estate to be placed over my grave. It is also my desire that my executors shall cause enquiry to be made unto the estate of my uncle Michael Hurley late of Harbor Grace Dealer deceased, and have the remaining portion of his estate distributed according to the intent and meaning of his last will and testament.Lastly, I hereby nominate and appoint Captain Patrick Lynch and William Scott, Shopkeeper, both of Saint John’s Executors of this my last will and testament.
