Will of Maurice Casey

In re MAURICE CASEY: DECEASED.

In the name of God Amen. I Maurice Casey of Saint John’s in the Island of Newfoundland Farmer do make publish and declare the following to be my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made or executed-

First I give devise and bequeath unto my wife Ellen Casey the sum of four hundred dollars Newfoundland currency and also the eastern half of the house I now live in together with the lower part of my property commencing at the gate at the entrance of my garden and running north to the big rock and thence to the north boundary fence- also I give and bequeath to my said wife the two milch cows and all my household furniture beds and bedding- The aforesaid landed property to be held by my said wife only for the term of her natural life and after her death to go to my daughter Mary Kelly hereinafter named- the remainder of my landed property I give devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary Kelly together with the western end of the house I now live in I also give and bequeath to my said daughter Mary Kelly the sum of three hundred dollars Newfoundland currency and I also give and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary Kelly the two heifers. I also give devise and bequeath the barn to my said wife and my said daughter Mary Kelly to be held by them in common after the death of my said wife the said barn to go to my daughter Mary Kelly - the farming utensils to be used in common for the benefit of my said wife and my said daughter Mary Kelly- and also I give devise and bequeath to my said wife and my said daughter Mary Kelly the stock of hay and other crops now housed share and share alike- The several bequests hereinbefore made to my daughter Mary Kelly to be free from the control of her present or any future husband she may have- I give and bequeath to my daughter Bridget married to Michael Foley and Norah married to Timothy Guilfoile the sum of one dollar Newfoundland currency each- I hereby nominate and appoint Mr. Michael Rice sole executor of this my last will and testament In witness whereof I have hereunto my hand and seal subscribed and set this nineteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy one.
