In re MARY WALSH: DECEASED. This is the last will and testament of me Mary Walsh of St. John’s Spinster. I give devise and bequeath to the Convent of Mercy at Belvidare the sum of five pounds for the use of the Orphanage To the Society of the Blessed Virgin Mary commonly called the Confraternity of which I am a member the sum of five pounds. To the Society of the Propagation of the Faith the sum of two pounds and ten shillings to the Society of the Living Rosary the sum of two pounds and ten shillings To the Cathedral Altar Society St. John’s the sum of two pounds and ten shillings To the Altar Society of St. Patrick’s Church Riverhead St. John’s the sum of two pounds and ten shillings. To the Very Reverend Thomas O’Connor Portugal Cove the sum of two pounds and ten shillings To the Very Revd Father Scott of St. John’s the sum of two pounds to be distributed amongst the sick poor of St. John’s. Towards the erection of the Church of St. Patrick Riverhead St. John’s the sum of thirty pounds To the Cathedral St. John’s the sum of thirty pounds- The balance of my money in the Savings Bank after the payment of the above legacies and after payment of all my just debts and funeral expenses I desire shall be divided in equal proportions amongst the priests of St. John’s and the Revd Thomas O’Connor Portugal Cove for Masses for the repose of the souls in purgatory. My bed, bolster and pillow and bedding I leave to the nuns at Belvidare to be used as they may think proper. To the Benevolent Irish Society I bequeath the sum of ten pounds now due to me from the estate of the late Philip Duggan to be by them distributed amongst the poor as part of their annual grant. My books pictures and other articles in my room I leave to Mrs. Mary Anne Lash to be by her distributed to such persons and in such way as I shall direct. I do hereby nominate and appoint the Very Reverend Thomas B. McGrath of st. John’s executor of this my last will and testament Dated at St. John’s this 3rd day of November 1874,Mary her X mark Walsh.
