In re: MARY ANN CHAFE DECEASED
This is the last will and testament of me Mary Ann Chafe of St. John’s, widow.
First. I appoint Sarah Beer wife of John Beer and my nephew Jacob Robert Emmanuel Chafe, Executors of this my will.
Second. I desire that my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses shall be first paid by my said Executors.
Third. I bequeath to my said nephew Jacob Robert Emmanuel Chafe the piece of parcel of land situate on Hamilton Street in St. John’s, purchased by me from Samuel Collett To Hold to my said nephew for ever. I also bequeath to my said nephew the sum of fifty dollars out of monies on deposit in the Newfoundland Savings Bank.
Fourth. I direct that my said Executors shall provide a suitable headstone for my daughter, who is buried at Petty Harbor, and also a suitable headstone for my husband and myself.
Fifth. all the rest, residue and remainder of my monies, goods and effects I give and bequeath to the said Sarah Beer and to my said nephew in equal shares between them. Witness my hand at St. John’s this twenty fourth day of April Anno Domini one thousand nine hundred and four (sgd) Mary Ann her x mark Chafe. Signed Published and Declared by the testatrix as and for her last will and testament, in our presence, who in the presence of the testatrix and of each other have hereunto subscribed our hands as witnesses, the said will having first been read over and explained to the testatrix and approved by her in our presence (sgd) D Morison (sgd) C.E.
