Will of Mary Baird

In re: MARY BAIRD DECEASED.

This is the last will and testament of me, Mary Baird of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland, Spinster.

1. I revoke all wills heretofore by Me Made.

2. I appoint John C. Hepburn of St. John's, Merchant, Executor of this My last will and testament.

3. I give, devise and bequeath to my said Executor
$500.00 Newfoundland 6 ½ per cent Government Debentures,
$1000.00 Newfoundland 4 per cent Government Debentures,
$800.00 Carbonear Water Company Stock,
$1200.00 stock in the Angel Engineering Company and
$240.00 stock in the Newfoundland Boot & Shoe Company, Upon Trust, to sell and dispose of the same and out of the proceeds arising from the sale of the said stocks to pay the following legacies: -

(A) To Katie, Robert and Fred Firth, children of my deceased sister, Maggie Firth, the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars each.
(B) To Kitty Baird & Jean Ayre daughters of my brother John Baird, the sum of two hundred dollars, that is to say one hundred dollars each.
(C) To Marie Skinner and Walter Sclater, children of my sister Annie Sclater, the sum of two hundred dollars each.
(D) To Mary Hepburn and Sclater Ellis, children of my sister, Isabella Ellis, the sum of three hundred dollars each.
(E) To my sisters, Jessie Sclater and Selina Hepburn, the sum of seven hundred and fifty dollars each.

4. Touching the fund provided under Section ninth of the Will of my mother, Margaret Baird, in which I have a life interest and from which I derive an annual income of 50 pounds, and with respect to which, under Section twelfth of the said Will of Margaret Baird, I have power of appointment, it is my wish and desire that this portion of the Estate of the said Margaret Baird shall be divided into five parts and after payment of all necessary expenses incident to the said division, to be distributed as follows: -
(A) To the children of my sister, Maggie Firth, one-fifth part, share and share alike.
(B) To the children of my sister, Annie Sclater, one-fifth part, share and share alike.
(C) To the children of my sister, Isabella Ellis, one-fifth part, share and share alike.
(There was no D)
(E) To my sister Jessie Sclater one-fifth part.
(F) To my sister Selina Hepburn one-fifth part.

4.(?) All the rest, residue and remainder of my said Estate I bequeath to my sisters, Jessie Sclater and Selina Hepburn share and share alike.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand at St. John's, this 2nd day of November, A.D. 1920. MARY BAIRD. Signed published and declared by the Testatrix as and for her last will and testament, in the presence of us, who in her presence and in the presence of each other and at her request have hereunto set our names as witnesses Lilla Mews.
