Newfoundland will books volume 3 pages 282-283 probate year 1872. A portion of this will appears to have been omitted from the will book, as the codicil refers to items not in the will.

Will of Margaret Halley

In re MARGARET HALLEY: DECEASED.

This is the last will and testament of me Margaret Hally widow of the late William Hally late Light House Keeper at Cape Race. I give and bequeath to Mary Walsh formerly Slaney my niece the sum of one hundred pounds currency for her separate use and not to be under the controul or engagement of any husband she may have and her receipt to be sufficient guarantee for the payment to her; and all the rest and residue of my monies estate and effects I give and bequeath to my sons William and Michael in equal shares and I appoint my said sons executors of this my will. Witness my hand and seal at St. John’s this 24th day of June A.D. 1867.

This is a codicil to the within will of me Margaret Halley. I have advanced my son William two hundred pounds since I made the will and partly before then and therefore alter the bequest of the residue of my money and property.

My bed bedding curtains and bedstead I give to my son Michael Hally. All my debts funeral and testamentary expenses to be first paid also repairs of my late husband’s grave and inscription on head stone to be made and the residue of the money in my name in the Savings Bank I give as follows:

Twenty five pounds cy to The Roman Catholic Bishop of St. John’s for Masses for the repose of the souls of my late husband and my own;  : : : Fifty pounds cy to be paid to my son Michael Halley and any left to my granddaughter Margaret daughter of my son William.

My wearing apparel I give to my niece Mary Ann Kinsella of Ferryland and to my niece Margaret Slaney of same place in equal parts.  : : : I give four prayer books and my spectacles to my sister-in-law Bridget Slaney of Ferryland.

I confirm the gifts of Four hundred dollars to Mary Walsh and of thirty dollars to my grandson William Charles deposited in their names with the Savings Bank books. I confirm the appointment as executors of my sons Michael and William named therefor in my said will- Witness my hand and seal this 20th day of April A.D. 1872.
