  Martin Power deceased.
In the name of God Amen. I Martin Power of St. John’s Fisherman do make publish and declare this as and for my last will and testament.
First I direct that all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses be paid
Second To my executor hereinafter named I give and bequeath the sum of one hundred pounds to be by him taken and held for the use and benefit of my niece Catherine Leary as separate estate free and clear of the debts and control of her husband and to be paid to her in such sums and at such times as to my executor shall seem proper-
Third- To my said executor I give and bequeath the further sum of one hundred pounds to be by him taken and held in trust for my nephew Thomas Leary son of my above named niece to be paid to him when he shall have attained the age of twenty one years or be out of his apprenticeship whichever time my executor shall deem best-
Fourth. I give devise and bequeath the sum of ten pounds to the Catholic Clergy in Saint John’s for Masses for the repose of my soul.
Fifth I give and bequeath the sum of ten pounds to the Very Reverend Jeremiah O’Donnell of Harbor Main and five pounds to the Reverend Patrick O’Donnell of the same Parish for the offering up of Masses for the repose of my soul.
Sixth I will and bequeath ten pounds to the Orphanage of St. Michaels Belvedere for the support of the orphans therein-
Seventh. I will and bequeath the sum of ten pounds to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul towards the relief of the poor in Saint John’s-
Eighth- I will and bequeath the sum of five pounds towards the completion of Saint Patricks Church River Head-
Ninth. I will and bequeath five pounds towards the support of the Christian Brothers in Saint John’s.
Tenth- I will and bequeath the sum of ten pounds to be applied towards the completion and support of the Christian Brothers Schools in Saint Patricks Hall.
Eleventh- I will and direct my executor to expend the sum of fifty pounds in and about my funeral expenses and in the erection of a suitable monument and railing on and around my grave and if said amount be insufficient then he shall expend out of the residue of my monies such further sum as may meet these expenses and charges-
I will and bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my monies and chattels to my executor to hold the same in trust for the use and benefit of the children of my said niece Catherine Leary in equal shares to such of them as he in his judgment may consider worthy thereof. Lastly I nominate and appoint my friend James Murray of Duckworth Street St. John’s, Shopkeeper, executor hereof. Dated at St. John’s this 24th day of June A.D. 1881. Martin his X mark Power.
