Will of Joseph Gribble

In re JOSEPH GRIBBLE: DECEASED.

In the name of God Amen. I Joseph Gribble of Saint John’s in the Island of Newfoundland Fish Culler, being of sound mind and understanding, and of good memory but mindful of my mortality, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say

First I will and bequeath my soul to Almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently buried without any funeral pomp but fitting a man in my rank in life.

Secondly, I will and bequeath to my loving wife Eleanor Gribble all those my freehold messuages, tenements, lands, hereditaments and premises with the appurtenances where of I am seized in fee, situate and being in the Parish of Torbryan, Devon, England, and lately being in the possession or occupancy of Mr. Joseph Farleigh.

Thirdly, I will and bequeath to my loving wife Eleanor Gribble all that certain leasehold property situate and being on the south side of Duckworth Street in the town of St. John’s aforesaid bounded on the east by property belonging to William Branscomb on the west by property belonging to James Branscomb, on the north by Duckworth Street aforesaid and on the south by property belonging to the aforesaid James Branscomb, and at present in my possession, together with all and singular the rents issues and profits arising from the aforesaid property.

Fourthly, I will and bequeath to my aforesaid loving wife Eleanor Gribble all sums of money debts and demands whatsoever which I may die possessed of in England, Newfoundland or elsewhere also I give and bequeath to my said wife Eleanor Gribble all my household goods and furniture And also all the rest residue and remainder of my estate of what nature kind and quality whatsoever the same may be and not hereinbefore disposed of after payment of my debts funeral expensea and the expence of proving this will. I do hereby bequeath to my loving wife Eleanor Gribble her administrators and assigns and I do hereby make ordain constitute and appoint my said wife Eleanor Gribble my sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made.

In witness whereof I have to this my last will and testament set and subscribed my hand and seal at Newfoundland aforesaid the eighteenth day of April one thousand eight hundred and fifty five.
