Will of John Walsh Parish Priest

In re: JOHN WALSH. DECEASED

Glory be to God Amen I Rev. John Walsh P.P. of Renews do make this my last will & testament
1st I have about $1400.00 in the Govt Savings Bank of St. John’s N.F. and about $200.00 in my house or at the Convent. I have six govt Debenture Bonds of $250.00. I have a mare Carriage Sleigh farming machines etc etc. all worth say $600.00

2nd I will that my lawful debts be paid which at present consist of Amounts due my house servants Lar. Kitty Gearin & Katie Roche & some running account at Goodridges & about 27 unsaid Masses.

3rd That $200.00 be give for low Masses for my poor Soul & $100.00 for low Masses for the souls of father, mother, brother sisters, Archdeacon James Walsh, Bishop Power who ordained me, two mothers Joseph O’Donnell, Mgr. Scott, Fr. McGrath & such as I have in any way injured, or neglected especially amongst my Parishioners.

4th That $200.00 be applied to placing a monument at my grave in the nuns Cemetery here in Renews

5th That $300.00 be given the poor of this Parish.

6th That $150.00 be given Pat Dunne who has been a servant with me for more than sixteen years besides of course whatever current wages may be due.

7th That $150.00 be given in charge of the nuns for the benefit of Lar Kane who has been a long time one way or another connected with the place.

8th That $100.00 be given my servant girl Kitty Gearin who has been in my employ some six years, and $30.00 to Katie Roche who is at present my servant. N. B. These sums are exclusive of current salary.

9th That $50.00 be devoted to the benefit of the Renews Band

10th That $100.00 be given to place some memorial over Archdeacon Jas Walsh’s grave in St. Kyrans.

11th That my six Debentures be given to the Nuns of Renews Convent to help towards their support for ever.

12th That the Renews nun’s take charge of my mare etc. etc. & all personal property & that they dispose of same to best advantage & from receipts after paying any debts there may be & giving some for God’s sake, to keep all else themselves.

And I hereby appoint Hon J. D. Ryan St. John’s Revd Mother Stanislaws & Mother Patrick to be my lawful executors. Dated at Renews this 21st of August 1912 signed - John Walsh - Note I have in my charge a Savings Bank Book belonging to my brother & sisters Rev Mother Stanislaus Mother Patrick Walsh will kindly send it to them - John Walsh -
