Will of John McGuire

In re JOHN McGUIRE. DECEASED.

The last will and Testament of John McGuire of Torbay in the central District of St. John's Newfoundland I John McGuire do hereby will and bequeath all my property and effects as follows

first I will the sum of $40 dollars for a high mass for the Resident Clergyman of Torbay for my wife and the sum of 20 dollars for myself for masses for myself and my father and mother Daniel McGuire and Bridget also for my two children John and Anne McGuire

I will the sum of $20 dollars for my son James and three daughters that is $5 to each one

I will the sum of 50 dollars to defray the expenses of our death and funeral and if there is any more wanted Daniel will see to it

I leave to Daniel McGuire my grandson all my land houses cows horse and ??? cart single slea and all other materials belonging to me he is to take care of my wife and be kind to her if she lives longer than I do & also my wife is to have the charge of her house and management of her house and property as she had when I was living My Daughter Bridget Byrne is to take care of my wife and me on our sick beds and I leave to her that piece of land from the North East end of the new linny(?) to the main road and she is to fence it off as a strait line Nothing to be done or distributed till we are in our graves. Here is two copys of the will one to be given to the resident clergyman and the other to be left for the witnesses the copy is to be kept in the house till we both are in our graves May the lord have mercy on our souls Given from under my hand this 24th day of January 1894
