In re
         John Hickey deceased.

In the name of God Amen.     I John Hickey of St. John’s in the Island of Newfoundland Fisherman being now old feeble and for some months past bedridden, but of sound and disposing mind and memory thanks be given unto God, therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament,     First and principally of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body to be decently interred in Christian burial, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give devise and bequeath the same in the following manner and form,     First and principally of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God     I give devise and bequeath to my beloved wife Margaret Hickey all the property at present in my possession both real and personal, comprising four houses and the garden thereunto annexed together with all my household furniture situate near Dreelan’s Well, Casey’s Lane, in the town of St. John’s aforesaid To have and to hold all and singular my aforesaid property together with all other effects and debts now due to me or in any ways appertaining unto and to the use behoof and benefit of my said wife Margaret Hickey for ever Provided always nevertheless that I now give and bequeath to the Revd Father O’Donnell the sum of forty shillings payable or to be paid by my wife aforesaid before her death,     And I hereby declare null and void all former wills and legacies heretofore made by me made and I hereby nominate and appoint my said wife Margaret Hickey sole executrix to this my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Saint John’s aforesaid this sixteenth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty two.     John his X mark Hickey (LS)     Signed sealed and delivered by the said testator in all our presence, Hy Devereux, Not.
