IN RE: JOHANNA RUTHVEN. DECEASED
This is the last will and testament of me, Johanna Ruthven of St. John's in the Island of Newfoundland, widow I revoke all former wills by me at any time made and I appoint the Reverend Joseph F. Pippy of the Deanery Riverhead to be the Executor of this my will.
I give and bequeath all the property of whatsoever kind I may die possessed including in particular the amounts deposited to my credit in the Newfoundland Government Savings Bank and the Savings Bank Department of the Bank of Nova Scotia St. John's, to my said Executor in trust for the payment of my just debts and testamentary and funeral expenses,
secondly for the payment of the sum of Two Hundred dollars for the purpose of Masses for the repose of my soul and the souls of my late father and mother (which said Masses I desire to be offered by my said Executor and the said sum of two Hundred Dollars to be received by him personally),
and lastly for the payment of all the residue of my estate in equal shares to the fund for the St. Patricks Church St. John's, repairs, and to the Christian Brothers Mount St Francis for the benefit of the Order in Newfoundland. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my hand at St. John's aforesaid this second day of April in the year of Our Lord One thousand nine Hundred and twelve
Johanna her x mark Ruthven Signed, Published and Declared by the testatrix as and for her Last will and Testament in presence of us both being present at the same time who at her request and in her presence hereunto subscribe ourselves as witnesses attesting the due execution thereof the said will having been first read over and explained to the said testatrix who appeared perfectly to understand the same and who signed the same by making her mark thereto in our presence Catherine Murphy W. J. Higgins
This is a Codicil to the above last will and testament of me Johanna Ruthven. I direct that after paying two Hundred dollars for masses my said Executor shall pay the sum of two Hundred dollars to my nephew Alexander Fraser, of Brocton Mass. U.S.A. As witness my hand at St. John's aforesaid this 2nd day of April A.D. 1912 Johanna her x mark Ruthven.
